TECH UPSKILL FOR ALL PROGRAM

06 Jan, 2026

The Tech Upskill Program is a transformative initiative designed to equip vulnerable and underrepresented communities with practical digital and technical skills. By fostering skill building and employability, the program creates pathways to meaningful opportunities within Rwanda’s rapidly expanding digital economy. Its focus includes people living with disabilities, vulnerable women, refugees, and other marginalized groups, ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s technological progress.

This initiative is a strategic collaboration between the Bundesverband IT-Mittelstand e.V. (BITMi) and the  Rwanda ICT Chamber, combining international expertise with local knowledge to maximize impact. The initiative addresses barriers to participation from access to technology to tailored training modules creating an inclusive learning environment where participants can thrive.

Implementation and Impact

The program is delivered by a consortium of experts, including kLab, FabLab, and the Digital Business Institute (DBI), each bringing unique experience and resources. Through hand-on training, mentorship, and real-world project opportunities, participants gain the confidence and skills needed to succeed in Rwanda’s digital economy. The Tech Upskill initiative is a living example of inclusion in action, transforming lives and empowering communities to fully engage with a technology driven future.

Digital Literacy & Entrepreneurship (DBI)

DBI has advanced inclusive digital education by delivering foundational training in Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurship across Muhanga, Musanze, Nyagatare, and Rwamagana districts. So far, 554 beneficiaries have been trained and certified, with strong participation from women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Building on this success, DBI has launched an advanced program for 180 high-potential graduates, deepening their competencies in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, Business english, soft skills and business development paving the way for meaningful employment and enterprise creation.

Software Development & Coding (kLab)

At kLab, 45 participants have gained essential skills in software development and coding. Through practical, hands-on training, they have built solid foundations in programming, problem solving, and collaborative project development. This immersive experience prepared them to contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s thriving tech sector and its dynamic innovation ecosystem.

Digital Fabrication & Innovation (FabLab)

FabLab has empowered 35 participants through specialized training in digital fabrication and embedded systems, fostering practical skills, creativity, and innovation. As part of its inclusive approach, FabLab launched a women focused program at the Musanze Hanga Hub, where 29 women are mastering modern digital embroidery techniques that combine art with technology. These initiatives inspire entrepreneurship, boost employability, and promote innovation across diverse communities.

Bridging the Digital Divide

By equipping vulnerable and underrepresented groups with practical skills, the Tech Upskill Program is helping bridge Rwanda’s digital divide. It supports the country’s vision of a knowledge based economy while promoting economic empowerment, particularly for women, rural communities, and refugees.

Looking Ahead

The AIPI for All project continues to progress strongly. Training preparations, partner collaborations, and outreach efforts remain on track, while social media engagement raises awareness and attracts participants. By providing practical skills, promoting inclusivity, and creating employment pathways, the Tech Upskill Program is demonstrating that inclusive innovation is not just a goal, it is a reality.
